How to cite and reuse
Use it, change it, and say where it came from
This handbook exists to be used. Take the slides, put them in your own deck, edit them, teach from them, paste a figure into a report. You do not need to ask. All we ask is that you say where it came from, so the next person can find it and so the people who built it get the credit.

In APA
The volume
SeeingTheta. (2026). The Psychometrician’s Handbook: Vol. 1. Correlations. https://itemandscale.com/volume-1-correlations/
Cite this for anything in the volume: a definition, a method, a figure, a takeaway. For a specific claim, add the page number from the printed edition, for example (SeeingTheta, 2026, p. 54).
This website
SeeingTheta. (2026). The Psychometrician’s Handbook [Website]. https://itemandscale.com
Cite this when you mean the site as a whole rather than the volume.
The dataset and code
SeeingTheta. (2026). Simulated COA dataset and R code for Volume 1: Correlations [Data set and software]. https://itemandscale.com/resources/
Every figure and every number in the volume comes out of this. Cite it if you reuse the data or reproduce a figure.
An interactive demo
SeeingTheta. (2026). Pearson vs Spearman [Interactive demonstration]. In The Psychometrician’s Handbook. https://itemandscale.com/interactive/correlations/pearson-vs-spearman/
Swap the title and the link for the demo you used.

Reuse
What you can do without asking
- Take any slide from the volume and use it as it is.
- Edit, re-cut, re-order or retype any slide to suit your audience.
- Reproduce the figures, the tables and the code blocks.
- Use the dataset and the R script, including for work you publish.
- Teach from the whole thing, internally or publicly.
Attribute it with one of the citations above, or a plain line such as “adapted from The Psychometrician’s Handbook, Volume 1: Correlations”. If you change a slide materially, say so, so that a reader does not attribute your edit to us.
One carve-out: the collaborator logos
The Corporate Collaborators page carries the trademarks of other organisations. They gave permission for their marks to appear in this handbook, and that permission is not ours to pass on. If you reuse a slide, take the logos off it, or ask those organisations yourself. Everything else on these pages is ours to share and is covered above.
